>at the end of World War II, Nazi leaders gave meth to soldiers to squeeze more out of them during key battles
This didn't just happen at the end of the war, it was something that started at the beginning of the way. The Nazis called their product Pervitin. You can read more about it in Norman Ohler's _Blitzed: Drugs in the Third Reich_ (https://amzn.to/3vgJdxD)
Today, 3 years later, I'm being shown your article.
There is something about algorithms that truly escape me, but I know it for a fact that everything that we ever publish are evergreen pieces of content.
Well written, Sean. I saw your article in Yahoo! and following you led me to your Substack platform. I also have a Substack platform, check me out.
I left a lengthy comment chain (probaby too much in tangential supporting points), but the formatting got destroyed when I tried to split it up. I apologise for the length and formatting. Your last comment levied a rather serious and vague claim, and I felt it was necessary for posterity to give a thoughtful response to that. Of course, one can't be friends with everyone xD but it's rather my MO to try xD
I returned! (I apologise I haven't read thru this article) But the old article I comment seems to have expired. Your last messages were however: "No idea. I will unblock you now though." "I appreciate that Zerene. I believe I blocked you because of disinformation and inflammatory posts about the Ukraine war." but I never got around to following that troubling response up (in part because I was rather peeved that you were calling me "disinformation" and "inflammatory" as well as the general abuse of these terms in this day and age and use of them as an excuse to not be a person with other people. ) The last post I commented on I remember stating things such as "thank you for the sympathy towards our people" I also recall briefly noting to someone that Russia is not a dictatorship and that Putin does not have absolute power, and that discriptions fo Russia's political system in the US leave a lot to be desired. (Tho I abandoned this thread quickly, as it was clear the other comm
enter was more there for cathartic purposes rather than discussion. ) And that we need to move towards peace Perhaps you believe there is no democracy in Russia. I have to say there is, and I would say it suffers a number of similar flaws to the democracy here Stateside. But that is a long discussion. I wished to follow up that if there is any post you have felt as either untrue or pejorative, then I am more than open to corrections at all time. (albeit I have you blocked currently as you had blocked me.) I will note I am an ethnic Rusyn (we're from the SW of the Ukraine), and Kiev keeps trying to draft my mother's husband (from W. Ukraine, near Lviv). And that means several things, I very much frown at racist content from whatever source, be it Russian, Ukrainian or anglophone and that I have followed these events cosely for the past decade as they are rather profound and personal matters. As well, I generally only follow governmental/non-profit figures and claims for statement
s, and have a background with both history and anthropology. I also have direct personal connexions across the FSU. This is my backyard so to speak. If your statements were with regards to my general posts, My general posts tend to be responses to what pops up via the algorithm, which is honestly not the greatest system as the algorithm doesn't really listen to what I want and a lot of times there are ridiculous questions with non-sensical errors. I mostly post to practice writing, but I also have OCD regarding errors. I am very self-critical and question and breakdown literally everything, all the time. I am an ENTP, I should probably mention. It's not personal nor out of any emotion towards something, I don't avoid questioning something because I like it, and it's not about respect like certain types might believe, (I don't buy into the authoritarian motif of not questioning those in "high social positions", and I'm well aware of the sciences with my molecular bio and archaeology b
ackground.) but if the objective is not questioning things because it might be viewed wrong, then that is not me. For example, both democrats and republicans hate me as I have never given in to the social agreement either expect. Where I am from in Central New York, people talk openly and it's never a problem; however in places such as southern IL or NYC I've noticed it's not viewed as "socially acceptable" to question the dominant party. This is massive culture shock, and also terrifying. Poitically on the matter of the war, I am lined up with most of the anti-war East Slavs, as I'd like the conflict to end. I don't beieve Russia should have upped the scale of the conflict, I also tho am not inclined to believe Russia is "just going to pull out" nor that it was "out of nowhere" (what person acts simply out of nowhere...) and "without rational", Russia's concerns have to be acknowledged (whether or not one likes them) to begin a conversation, and understanding and humanising are nec
essary to end conflicts and find peace. Without these peace cannot be had. Promoting war only causes more sufferring. If being against war is inflammatory, I am not sorry. If saying peace and understanding are necessary, then I am not sorry. However, I don't try to provoke anyone, nor however do I tiptoe when something doesn't logically connect. I try my best to be polite. I am likely the person who would let someone know, face to face (not on a microphone naturally), that someone has spinach stuck in their teeth. Or that there might be a better fix for somethinig if they'd like. Some cultures perhaps view this as "loss of face" even if not directed towards anyone in particular and I guess that's "inflammatory." But being kind is better than being superficial. Whether it agrees with me or not, I try to look at the reasoning and logic at play and I rather disdain fallacies. I also love being wrong. In our hyperpolarised world, making corrections or criticisms or suggestions which r
un counter to a virtue signalling statement are very very often mistaken as a polarised other. What might be a slight correction in a hostile political climate can be taken as a complete 180 or followed up with sneering remarks from those with prejudicial arguments, those who didn't even read but simply wanted blood. Where you comment x and you're suddenly being attacked with a short and easiy readable but false implication that you said y and a virtue signalling statement against that , and mob mentaity kicks in where most commenters will just "assume" without reading. I'm sure you've been there and seen that in action in your own comment sections. Apparently a stunt to retain social standing, there was a guy in a discord I was in who would do this, making claims and implications which were vastly inappropriate. This polarisation and virtue signalling issue however is a common issue amongst democrats and republicans, which I have pointed out for a long while. It's of course in the
interests of capitalistic media corporations and polticians seaking election - as it hypes people up against an "enemy". Now for example, Try explaining to either why there is a better argument out their for their pro/anti abortion case, or why they might be wrong about something they hear within their own bubble about "the other side" which humanises them, and they probably will focus in on the not falling in line with their group narratives and even with a better argument presented which helps their case or cause, this is likely to be thrown aside amidst ad hominems and claims you are "one of them." Where one has to wonder if it's about the cause itself or simply one's tribe. The tribalistic nature of humanity and the result of echo chambers and dehumanisation are profound. Most of the sources I trust on the war are such as Reuters and Institue for the Study of War. I was blasted a few times for recommending these over sensationalist postings which were either annecdotal and lack

Uhh, have you not heard about the disgraced, twice impeached, criminal defendant ex-president's "executive" time. Where basically he stayed in his bathrobe doing nothing until noon? If I did that, is have energy too. Gheesh. https://www.axios.com/2019/02/03/donald-trump-private-schedules-leak-executive-time
I do want to say, however, you have exquisite writing and this article was needful and greatly appreciated.
Wow
This was really fun to read, much appreciated!
